4C Mailboxes

The STD-4C, which now applies to all Wall-Mounted Centralized Mail Receptacles, replaces the previous STD-4B+ regulation for Receptacles/Apartment/House Mail, and became mandatory in October 2006 for all new construction and major renovation projects.

STD-4C also requires one parcel locker per ten (1:10) tenant compartments.  It is now possible to replace single tenant mailbox compartment doors with double, triple or even quadruple size tenant mailbox compartment doors. This flexibility will allow customization within each mailbox module while still being USPS approved.

Standard Features:

  •   Rugged, corrosion and weather resistant powdercoat finish resists scratching and vandalism
  •   Constructed of heavy gauge aluminum and 300 series stainless steel components for superior strength, corrosion resistance and exceptional outdoor durability
  •   Solid aluminum mail slot frame similar to High Security CBU design protects adjacent customer compartment and collection compartment
  •   Unique double-locking parcel locking mechanism design for added mail package security
  •   New USPS-1172 910A lock with three (3) keys
  •   Number decals up to three digits or engraved identification up to six characters
  •   Exclusive Florence multi-unit connector kit hardware included with every mailbox model for convenience and ease of installation

Additional Features:

  •   Master loading doors designed with interlocking overlap seams to prevent prying
  •   Quick release master loading door lock latch for easy access by Postal carriers
  •   Rear-loading 4C Suite modules available
  •   Pedestal or surface mount any front-loading Florence 4C mailbox module
  •   CombiCam Combination Lock now available (this lock not approved for USPS mail delivery)

4B+ Mailboxes for Replacement and Private Use

As of October 6, 2006, USPS STD-4C compliant mailbox systems are mandatory on all NEW CONSTRUCTION and MAJOR RENOVATIONS. Mailboxes that are 4B+ compliant will only be considered USPS Approved if they are replacing existing mailboxes.

If USPS Letter Carriers deliver mail to each existing tenant compartment in a horizontal mailbox installation, STD-4B+ equipment may only be used to replace the installation if no modification of the existing wall opening will be made.

Private mail delivery is when the mail is delivered to one centralized business location by the USPS Letter Carrier and then the facility manager or entrusted individual distributes the mail to all the individual tenant compartments.  Mailboxes for private delivery do not have to conform to current postal regulations and therefore often vary in size from standard USPS Approved Equipment.
